Nouryon and its partners begin production at the new MCA plant

The plant is India’s largest monochloroacetic acid (MCA) manufacturing facility with an annual production capacity of 32,000 tonnes.
Anaven, a joint venture between specialty chemicals company Nouryon and agrochemicals maker Atul, this week announced that it has recently commenced production of monochloroacetic acid (MCA) at its new plant in Gujarat, India. With an initial capacity of 32,000 tonnes/year, the new plant is the largest MCA production site in India.
“Through our collaboration with Atul, we are able to leverage Nouryon’s global leadership in MCA to meet the rapidly evolving needs of our customers in various Indian markets, while continuing to drive innovation and sustainable growth in the region,” said Rob Vanco, vice president of construction at Nouryon and chairman of Anaven.
MCA can be used as a raw material for a wide range of end products including adhesives, pharmaceuticals and crop protection chemicals.
Nouryon said the plant is the only MCA plant in the world with zero liquid discharge. The plant also uses environmentally friendly hydrogenation technology.
“This collaboration will allow us to apply Nouryon’s advanced technologies to the new plant, while integrating forward and backward with our commodity chemicals and agrochemical businesses,” Sunil Lalbhai, chairman and managing director of Atul, said in a press release. “The Anaven plant will ensure a reliable supply of critical raw materials to the Indian market, allowing more farmers, doctors and families to have better access to essentials.”
